This is the next flier by Keith Carlson for an upcoming show on February 18th at Will’s Pub in Orlando. The bill consists of the touring duo Scale the Summit (Prosthetic Records) and Elitist (Blkheart Group) supported by locals Abuse and Fire in the Cave.
Recently our beloved buddy Keith Carlson has been creating time lapse videos for his artwork. This includes all of the fliers he commissions for us. Above you’ll see the time lapse video for this flier:

Big props to Orlandooom’s own Keith Carlson for this exceptionally classy logo. So, the Orlando Metal Awards have come again in October as usual. Since our inception at the beginning of this year all of the dedicated individuals that contribute to Orlandooom shows, blog posts, promotions, parties or what have you have been a family to me. Granted, as Tim of Hollow Leg put it, that family appears to be “a bunch of satanic alcoholics” seen through the eyes of any average Joe who’s never heard a metal band that wasn’t Slipknot or Metallica’s Black Album.
Now, I’m asking our readers, friends, and supporters to help us leave a foot print on the scene we’ve all work so hard to build and nourish. Below you’ll find a list of my nominations for Orlando’s Best Metal Bands and Individual Musicians. I’m going to post every single band that’s been gracious enough to be part of one of our shows. My individual list, however, will only be my personal nominations for each category.
Three posts on a Wednesday?! YEP! Keith Carlson returns to poke a little fun at the newest Mastodon LP: THE HUNTER.
While I’ve heard a lot of harsh criticism for this record, and I definitely won’t say it’s their best release, I feel this record has everything meant to be enjoyed about modern Mastodon contained within. However, my biggest criticisms are that the record feels like it’s out of order and these vocals are wayyyyyyy too flashy. Oh well, the guest vocals provided by Scott Kelly of Neurosis still bludgeon my ears with merciless bellows.
Here’s the newest strip by Keith Carlson! Just to clear up any controversy we don’t actually have any negativity towards Scion or the wonders that they’re doing for our community and all the great bands they assist. I myself witnessed the first Scion Rock Fest and was met with one of the most memorable concerts I’ve had the pleasure of attending.

Big thanks are in order for everyone that came out to see Capsule, Arc and Panther, Sterile Prophet, Abuse and Fire in the Cave last night at Substance! Thanks are also in order for Norse Korea Presents for throwing such a great show.
So, we decided to start doing web comics. Thanks to Keith Carlson for the illustration and idea. If you have any funny ideas for web comics, send them to Orlandooom407@gmail.com.

Thanks to Keith Carlson once again for another incredible flier design(click the flier for a link to the facebook event)! Those who are unaware of Black Skies, Royal Thunder and/or Caltrop – turn up your speakers for this monolithic preview.
Royal Thunder
Doom n’ Roll has never felt this organic. Royal Thunder, signed to Relapse Records, was recently placed at #65 on the Paste Magazine: Top 100 bands at SXSW. Rightfully so, these cats have certainly mastered their chemistry with one another; each track from their debut self-titled LP lures the listener deeper into their psychedelic nightmare. Lenitive female vocals, from bassist/vocalist Mlny Parsons, carry hauntingly harmonious movements through songs led by mesmerizing percussive passages delivered by the group’s drummer Jesse Stuber. Faultless eerie guitar melodies finalize this specimen of perfect doom craft thanks to group guitarist: Josh Weaver.
Talk about colossal riffing! Black Skies, hailing from Carrboro North Carolina, must punish their audience with this thickness. Each song clamors through its deafening filthy exodus towards its final goal: a plethora of appreciative banging heads. But don’t think for a second that Black Skies exemplifies mono dimensionality stylistically; Guitarist Kevin Clark curls some mind bending solos into the ocean of seismic devastation wrought forth by bassist, and tour booking mastermind, Michelle Temple. These fantastic elements thoroughly compliment the crushing shocks of drummer Tim Herzog.
Dry mouthed worshipers of the fuzz pedal gods and, ironically, fans of innovative posty-metal style song strcuture will want to jam Caltrop through very large speakers. Caltrop, from Chapel Hill North Carolina, delivers blow after blow of dizzying jolts which may awaken then listener to a barrage of desert flavored riffing, or potentially usurp the listener into the collective harrowing onslaught these dudes create with their collective musical ferocity. That last sentence still doesn’t cover the length of Caltrop’s innovative inclusion of multiple devices. Songs will diverge into furious stylized solos that progressively warp back into these doomy movements chocked full of anthemic vocals that command attention of the listener. Stunning stuff, I’ll let the video do the rest of the talking.
Local favorites Junior Bruce orchestrate hypnotic segments of down home southern fried sludge metal. If Junior Bruce were to have a perfect performance setting it would unfold as desolate murky bog ankle deep in festering pools of leech ridden algae. Scott Angelacos, former front man of legendary hardcore outfit Bloodlet, has evolved with his vocal presentation since his Entheogen days into a more primal, terrifying howl. Junior Bruce’s instrumentation fuses the ferocity of Tom Crowther on bass guitar(ex-Hope and Suicide), Daniel Gonzalez on guitar(Possessed), Pete Wellmaker(ex-Hope and Suicide) and Bryan Raymond providing the back vocals and guitar. Expect sensory deprivation sickness; Junior Bruce will nourish each of your senses, except taste unless, well- nevermind. (The video above features Brett Tanner on drums who was recently side-lined due to medical leave. The Junior Bruce demo CD’s drums were recorded by Brett Tanner.)
Putrid, festering death-doom metal. Orlando based Druid Lord calls forth their intensity with the use of gruesome and horrifying imagery. Guttural vocals creep forward through each song’s sluggishly brutal pacing. Gloomy moods are sure to follow Druid Lord no matter where they decide to plug in their hulking amps, rest assured that the onslaught will follow. Despite their prickly and unrelenting barrage of filthy harmonies Druid Lord are some of the most professional hard-working guys playing shows in Orlando. Bassist Tony Blakk exemplifies that in the video above, a commendable debut performance at Will’s Pub.
